Ballarat kind of winter

The mid-winter school holidays are now upon us….but whether you have kids or not, here are the top 30 things you can do in around Ballarat this winter.

  • ·         This winter, Ballarat plays host to a pop up Ice Skating Rink! Located right in the centre of Ballarat and just down the road from our offices in Armstrong Street South, the ice skating rink is fast proving to be a very popular attraction. Bookings are essential, visit the website for more details.

  • ·         Sovereign Hill is always a top pick, and don’t they do it well! Over the next month or so the site is transformed into a winter wonderland….and also celebrating Christmas in July! Check out www.sovereignhill.com.au

  • ·         The Art Gallery of Ballarat holds one of the best collections of art in regional Australia. Featuring an impressive permanent collection, the gallery also plays host to an ever evolving of temporary exhibitions. Get down and check out the exhibition of one of nineteenth century Australia’s greatest eccentrics – James Meek, or learn the fabulous tale of Louis Rougemont – Australia’s Robinson Crusoe.

  • ·         If it’s been a while, why not reacquaint yourself with the divine characters of the Ballarat Wildlife Park. Patrick the Wombat remains a favourite guest!

  • ·         For the more adventurous, check out the Ballarat Ghost Tours. With Ballarat founded in the early 1800’s, an evening spent exploring the dark and paranormal side of our city will no doubt give you some hair raising moments. Explore underground buildings, back alleyways and the old Ballarat Goal. (not suitable if your kids are under 6).
So why not get out and enjoy all that Ballarat has to offer this winter!
